Employee benefits are non-wage compensations, such as stock options, group insurance, medical/dental insurance, retirement benefits, sick leave and vacation provided to employees through an employee benefit plan in addition to their wages or salaries.

Some employee benefits are mandated by statute such as unpaid family or medical leave under the federal Family Medical Leave Act. The Family and medical leave act of 1993 enforces covered employers to grant an eligible employee up to a total of 12 workweeks of unpaid leave during any 12-month period for one or more of the approved reasons.

Most employee benefits and employee health benefits, however, are determined by employer policy or contract. The Law Offices of Denise Eaton May can assist you with coordinating and resolving any issues concerning employee benefits or other employment law issues.
